Anti-Poverty Week 2013

This year, Anti-Poverty Week begins on Sunday 13 October and finishes on Saturday 19 October. It coincides every year with the UN International Anti-Poverty Day on 17 October.

The week is a time for community leaders to join with organisations and people all over Australia in focusing attention on reducing poverty and hardship.

The main aims of Anti-Poverty Week in Australia are to;

· Strengthen public understanding of the causes and consequences of poverty and hardship; and

· Encourage research, discussion and action to address these problems, including action by individuals, communities, organisations and governments

Anti-Poverty week was established in Australia in 2002 as an expansion of the UN’s annual International Anti-Poverty Day. Every action is valuable, whether it’s about preventing people from experiencing poverty, helping people to escape it or reducing its impact, or simply raising awareness.
