Kawana sport and recreation clubs are urged to apply for funding in the next round of the Queensland Government’s highly successful Get Going and Get Playing programs.

Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie said there was more than $14.5 million dollars available for clubs under this new round which closes on 1 September 2014.

“Get Playing and Get Going are two of three programs that make up Get in the Game, a key initiative designed to get more children and young people involved in sport and recreation activities,” he said.

“In round two, one club in Kawana received $99,900 of Get Playing and $9905 of Get Going funding.

“In addition, three clubs shared $27,913 in Get Going funding to provide better services and boost member numbers.”

Mr Bleijie said Kawana clubs that received funding under round two included:

• Kawana Soccer Club Incorporated ($99,900 Get Playing and $9905 Get Going) to install drainage to two fields, conduct an after school participation program, a membership drive and coaching accreditation courses.

• Kawana Waters Canoe Club Incorporated ($9853 Get Going) to conduct an introductory program, provide first aid accreditation, conduct education and training and purchase equipment.

• AFL Brisbane Juniors Incorporated ($10,000 Get Going) to conduct a series of come and try programs, skills sessions and new competition for children with a disability.

• Sunshine Coast Rugby Union Limited ($8060 Get Going) to provide coach and referee accreditation and purchase promotional material.

Sport and Recreation Minister Steve Dickson said the response from the first two rounds of Get Playing and Get Going had been overwhelming.

“During round two, more than 280 Queensland clubs applied for Get Playing funding and more than 1,000 clubs applied for Get Going,” Mr Dickson said.

“With more than $24.5 million in total funding approved for Get Playing and Get Going following rounds one and two, I have no doubt round three will be just as popular with recreation and sport clubs.

“It has been very pleasing to see the positive outcomes so far and I look forward to seeing more improvements to our sport and recreation clubs state-wide through the current round of funding.”

“We have a strong plan for a brighter future that involves more Queenslanders, being more active, more often.

Round four of Get Started, the third program in the Get in the Game initiative, is now open and assists children and young people with the costs to join a sport or recreation club.
