Home-grown humanitarian Jordyn Archer has made Kawana and the entire Sunshine Coast community proud with her tireless charity work at home and abroad, Kawana MP Jarrod Bleijie said today.

Mr Bleijie wished the 22-year-old well for tomorrow’s announcement of the Australian of the Year Awards.

“Regardless of the outcome Jordyn is a true community champion who has done her hometown and Queensland incredibly proud,” he said.

Jordyn was named one of four Queensland state level recipients in the Australian of the Year Awards 2014. As Queensland’s Young Australian of the Year she will join other state recipients hoping to be recognised as the national Young Australian of the Year.

“Jordyn’s selfless work through her association with Destiny Rescue and her own charity here in Australia, Chant4Change, has helped transform countless lives,” Mr Bleijie said.

“Through Chant4Change Jordyn has raised tens of thousands of dollars to assist the work of Destiny Rescue, a charity which works globally rescuing girls from sex trafficking and providing them with a home, skills and a fresh start to life.

“This commitment has seen Jordyn live in Cambodia and volunteer as a teacher, schooling the girls in English, and also managing the café which employs some of the girls,” Mr Bleijie said.

“On the Sunshine Coast Jordyn and her brother Joel host regular barbecues for the homeless.

“I was pleased to be asked to provide supporting character references for Jordyn’s nomination.

“Last year I invited Jordyn to join the Advance Kawana community advisory panel and she continues to provide input on important local issues.”

The national Australian of the Year Awards recipients will be announced at Parliament House in Canberra.

“Jordyn has done so much for those in need and I’m sure Kawana will join me in both congratulating her on her humanitarian work and wishing her the very best for the national awards,” Mr Bleijie said.
