Queensland families are being asked to choose between cheaper public transport fares or more services when the Newman LNP government re-invests savings from the scrapped carbon tax back into public transport.

Member for Kawana Jarrod Bleijie urged locals to have their say on how savings from the carbon tax are spent.

“With the carbon tax gone, we can continue to deliver our promise to improve front line services and improve cost of living for families,” he said.

“The Newman LNP Government is building the roads and public transport our growing state needs.

“We’ve already delivered an extra 3000 train and bus services, but now we’re doing more and asking Queenslanders whether they want savings invested in reduced fares or more services.

“The LNP promised to deliver better infrastructure and planning, and that’s exactly what we’re doing,” Mr Bleijie said.

“We are a government that listens and we are putting the call out to Queenslanders to tell us whether they want a five per cent reduction in fares or more public transport services.

“Under Labor, public transport fares increased while services declined, but we’ve been working hard over the last two and a half years to turn that around.

“Over the next two weeks I want to hear from Kawana residents on how best to spend the carbon tax savings, which are about $30 million a year.

“We promised at the election to improve affordability and never go back to the bad old days of Labor where they put fares up by 15 per cent year after year.”
