Sunshine Coast crime is out of control under Labor

New Queensland police statistics confirm that crime on the Sunshine Coast is out of control under the Palaszczuk Labor Government.

The 2016-17 QPS Annual Statistical Review shows that compared to the previous financial year on the Sunshine Coast:

• Robbery is up 51%
• Armed robbery is up 48.1%
• Car theft and hooning (unlawful use of a motor vehicle) is up 17.4%
• Fraud is up 29.8%
• Unlawful entry is up 0.9%
• Assault is up 20.8%

“As a result of the strong laws and additional resources provided by the LNP Government in late 2013, crime rates across the state dramatically dropped,” Mr Bleijie said.

However, Mr Bleijie said in a little under three years, Labor’s softly, softly, slap-on-the-wrist policies have undone the LNP’s hard work and has sent crime through the roof.

“Every day I hear another story from another fed up or frightened resident fearful of having their car broken into or stolen or having their home burgled,” Mr Bleijie said.

“There is no worse feeling than realizing someone has been in, or attempted to break into, your home – it’s a total violation of privacy and security.

“It’s not the Sunshine Coast I grew up in and residents deserve better than to live in fear in their own homes because of Annastacia Palaszczuk and Labor’s soft-on-crime approach.

“I hear all the time from local police on the beat that they’re stretched for resources, unsupported and at their wits’ end.

“Only the LNP will bring back tougher laws and the resources our police need to keep families safe.”
