Sunshine Coast residents are invited to join the debate on ways to reduce criminal activity in their local area and across Queensland, as part of State Parliament’s Crime Inquiry.

“This is about working together to build a safer community for all Queenslanders,” Kawana MP and Attorney-General Jarrod Bleijie said.

“We want to hear from Sunshine Coast residents to discuss ways of preventing and reducing criminal activity across the State and right here in our own backyard.

“Queenslanders have already provided written submissions and the Legal Affairs and Community Safety Committee is now holding public hearings to hear from invited witnesses.”

Mr Bleijie said the Committee had been tasked to examine local crime trends; social and economic contributors to crime; Queenslanders’ experiences with the criminal justice system and the effectiveness of crime prevention strategies.

“Kawana residents tell me regularly that they support efforts to crack down on crime and this public hearing is a way for local residents to listen to the issues raised and provide input based on their own experiences,” Mr Bleijie said.

“I encourage all residents to take advantage of this unique opportunity to have their say and make a real difference in their community.”

The Committee will hold its Sunshine Coast hearing at Mooloolaba on Wednesday, July 30. Residents are invited to attend and observe or as appear as witnesses.
